This work began, quite simply, outside my kitchen window.
Every day I look out at the hydrangeas growing there, full and generous in the cool of the morning, their blooms heavy and plump, catching the softer light before the day takes hold. By afternoon they often tell a different story, but this piece is about that quiet morning moment, when everything feels still, hopeful, and abundant.
‘Outside the Kitchen Window’ reflects my ongoing interest in noticing the small, familiar scenes of daily life and finding meaning within them. The hydrangea becomes more than a flower; it’s a marker of time passing, of seasons shifting, and of the comfort found in the rhythms we return to again and again without thinking. There is nostalgia here, but also presence — that pause before the day begins.
Rendered in soft pastel, the layered marks allow the blooms to feel lush and tactile, inviting the viewer to step closer and linger. This is a piece about slowing down, about noticing what’s already there, and about the quiet beauty that lives just beyond the glass.
