Learning focus: Building soft layers, controlling light values, and creating delicate petal edges. This tutorial is about slowing down and establishing believable form without overworking.
Apple Blossom II
Learning focus: Refining detail and depth, working with subtle colour shifts, and pushing contrast while keeping a fresh, light feel. A natural progression from the first apple blossom tutorial.
Peony
Learning focus: Handling complex floral structure, creating depth through overlapping petals, and maintaining softness while working at a larger scale. A strong study in patience and observation.
Hydrangea & Bumble Bee
Learning focus: Managing busy compositions, grouping shapes, and suggesting detail rather than drawing everything. Includes tips on making small focal elements (like the bee) feel alive and intentional.
Tūī
Learning focus: Rendering dark values without losing detail, observing feather structure, and balancing realism with expressive mark-making. Also explores contrast between subject and background.
Iris
Learning focus: Capturing movement and flow in petals, layering richer colour, and using directional marks to guide the viewer’s eye through the composition.
