Finding the right artist: A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Artist for Your Pet Portrait
You may have noticed lately, that there are so many pet portrait artists these days! From realism, to digital to more abstracted styles, there is a plethora of artists to choose from. It can be quite daunting to choose which style or artist YOU would trust with your beloved pet. Obviously, I’d love it if I was everybody’s first choice (wink wink) but I absolutely know that my style may not be the right fit for you.
So, how do you choose?
As a pet portrait artist myself, I've had countless conversations with potential clients. They often carry a mix of anticipation, excitement, and an innate fear of getting their choices wrong. Over the last couple of years, I've discovered that it's surprising how many people feel overwhelmed when seeking the right artist to immortalize their pet on canvas.
So why does this choice matter? Because your pet is not just an animal, but a cherished member of your family. Selecting an artist that can truly encapsulate their essence in a way that suits YOUR style, can be as important as choosing the right pediatrician for your child. You want the portrait to not just resemble your pet's physical appearance but also vividly portray their distinctive personality.
Now comes the exciting part - how to navigate this wide ocean of pet portrait artists. Whether you're a fan of realistic or abstract, watercolors or oil, there’s a perfect artist out there for everyone.
Firstly, take a look at your pet's personality and habits. Are they full of energy and bounce about, or are they more of a chilled-out lounging superstar? Align those traits with an artist who has a similar painting style. For example, if your pet is a lively and vibrant character, you might prefer a bold, colorful style that captures this dynamism. Or you may be on the hunt for an artist that creates artworks that are so realistic they seem to bounce of the canvas and their eyes are full of love.
Don’t forget to also consider your home decor! You probably want the portrait to blend effortlessly with the theme of your home, right? If you have a minimalistic decor theme, you may want to go for a monochrome pencil sketch instead of an elaborate oil painting.
Lastly, delve deeply into the portfolio of every artist you're considering. How many portraits have they done before and do their previous works resonate with you? Do you feel a connection with them as a person, and their art? Can you imagine your pet in their style? Do you TRUST that they will do a good job?
Choosing the right pet portrait artist can be an adventure in itself! Exploring different art styles and engaging with artists can lead you on a journey of self-discovery as well as help you find the best tribute to your furry friend.
In the heart of it all, it's about the profound bond we share with our pets and how we can honor and celebrate them through art.
Whether you decide on a hyperrealistic portrait in oil, a playful sketch in colored pencils, or a realistic soft pastel drawing like my work, remember that this portrait is more than just a stunning piece of art. It's a heartfelt homage to your pet, a tangible testament to the love and connection you share.
I'd be honored to be part of your pet's story, but ultimately, the choice of an artist is as personal as the bond you share with your pet and I totally understand that my style might not be what you’d like! If you do feel I could be the right fit, I warmly invite you to get in touch and explore that possibility together.
